What to Expect:
Speaker Mike Johnson has presided over the chamber since Republicans started a Civil War in their own conference by chasing former Speaker Kevin McCarthy out of Congress.
Donald Trump has endorsed Mike Johnson for another term as Speaker, but even that might not be enough to save Johnson's job.
Since the GOP's control of the House is HISTORICALLY small, Johnson can't afford to lose more than two Republican votes.
As of this message, at least one Republican plans to vote AGAINST Mike Johnson.
If just one more Republican member votes against him, Johnson's first ballot will fail.
Then, Congress will have to keep voting until a new Speaker of the House is elected.
Congress will need to certify the results of the 2024 Election next Monday, January 6th -- which cannot happen without a House Speaker.
Regardless of how today's vote pans out, one thing is certain: House Democrats are united, determined to make Leader Hakeem Jeffries the next Speaker of the House and deliver progress for working people and families.
