Congressman Khanna represents California's 17th District and is serving his fifth term in the U.S. House of Representatives. Known for tackling today's most pressing challenges, Khanna consistently advocates for policies that yield real-world results. His work as Vice-Chair of the Progressive Caucus and Co-Chair of Bernie Sanders' 2020 presidential campaign reflects a deep alignment with the values and mission of the Sanders Institute.
Silicon Valley is part of Rep. Khanna's district, and he is particularly insightful about the intersection of progressive politics and technological innovation. His informed economic approach, with the working class and middle class at the center of his thinking, is essential to producing comprehensive transformational rather than incremental change. He has a demonstrated commitment to improving the lives of working people, expanding economic opportunity, and promoting human rights and diplomacy.
Congressman Khanna has authored several bills that challenge the status quo and would save American taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars. One would put an end to the fossil fuel industry subsidies that are severely contributing to the global climate crisis. Another would prohibit using taxpayer dollars to subsidize large institutional investors' acquisition of single-family residential homes. His plan to build modern facilities producing near-zero iron and steel emissions in deindustrialized towns would strengthen domestic manufacturing and create good-paying jobs. He has legislation to peg the price of prescription drugs in the U.S. to the median price in Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Japan. He also plans to eliminate $220 billion in medical debt and wipe it from credit reports. And those are just a few examples.
As a Sanders Institute Fellow, Rep. Khanna will contribute to essential discussions on critical issues such as Medicare for All, affordable housing, climate, sustainability, and political reform. His thoughtful approach, rooted in his extensive legislative experience and deep personal commitment to public service, will be an invaluable addition to our work in fostering civil discourse and ideas that inspire meaningful change.
Welcome Rep. Ro Khanna as a Fellow of The Sanders Institute! Sign the card today!
Thank you for your continued support of the Sanders Institute as we work together to build a more just and equitable future.
