Dear MoveOn member,
Monday marks the fourth anniversary of Donald Trump's deadly January 6 insurrection.
And Donald Trump—who pledged to pardon the insurrectionists on his "first day"—is just days away from taking office.1
Andra, nine people died and more than 150 people were injured as a result of the white supremacist attack on our Capitol.2
Law enforcement officials have charged more than 1,500 people with crimes related to the insurrection—but Trump has pledged to pardon them, continuing his pattern of promoting violence, corruption, and favors for MAGA loyalists.3
Shameless.
We cannot allow Trump to get away with pardoning his lawless and violent cronies.
That means that MoveOn must be ready to spring into action if and when Trump issues these pardons. We must be ready to show a huge and overwhelming public outcry against Trump's pardons the moment they are issued.
The details of the January 6 attacks are harrowing. One insurrectionist, Jack Wade Whitton, violently attacked at least three people that day, shouting, "You're gonna die tonight."4
But instead of holding these violent insurrectionists accountable, Trump wants to celebrate and protect them by undermining the rule of law. Enough is enough.
Another insurrectionist currently in prison is gleefully awaiting his pardon, saying, "President Trump has our back just like we had his back on Jan. 6."5
If Trump pardons the January 6 insurrectionists, it will send a terrifying message that Trump, and anyone who acts on his behalf, will never have to face the consequences of their actions.
We simply can't allow that to happen.
Which is why MoveOn must be prepared to respond immediately to the pardons by exposing just how shameless, corrupt, and lawless they are. But we cannot power our campaign against the pardons without your help.
Thanks for all you do.
