Pamela --
On Tuesday, residents of Los Angeles County started evacuating as multiple fires fanned out of control. On Wednesday, more fires broke out. As of this morning, most of these fires are 0% contained, at least five people have lost their lives, 130,000 are under evacuation orders or warnings, and 420,000 are without power.
This is supposed to be the rainy season. Yet, these fires have raged thanks to a combination of extremely dry conditions and strong winds. We're seeing the impact in real time -- and it's devastating.
The climate crisis is here. It's now. And it's deadly.
Being in the climate fight means showing up for each other. When extreme weather strikes, we support organizations who send supplies, relief, and mutual aid to impacted communities. We help spread awareness and uplift their stories. We are in this together.
If you want to know what you can do to help support relief efforts in LA County, please check out the Mutual Aid LA Network (MALAN) leading relief efforts on the ground: MALAN is a connector and information hub for mutual aid efforts, people, and resources across Los Angeles. The Network is gathering resources for those affected by the fires from shelters and food, to PPE and animal rescues.
Thank you,
