As you read this, much of the mid-Atlantic is dealing with a major winter storm. Snowy and icy conditions are gripping our nation, from the Midwest to the East Coast, plus temperatures are plunging as far south as the Gulf Coast. As we try to stay warm in the comfort of our homes, we cannot forget about the brave members of our military who are responding to the cold and harsh conditions — or those who are already serving in some of the coldest and most remote areas of the world.

National Guard units in Missouri, West Virginia, Indiana and Kentucky have been activated to support state and local responders, rescue stranded motorists and assist communities affected by this deadly storm. While we may not fully understand every challenge they face — from working in freezing conditions to being away from their families during an ongoing emergency — we can show them that military supporters are out there who appreciate and understand the sacrifices they make.
