First, Jeff Bezos reportedly stopped the Washington Post, which he owns, from endorsing in the presidential election — ending a decades-long practice at the paper. On Friday, when this news broke, executives from Bezos's space company, Blue Origin, met with Donald Trump. Blue Origin has a $3.4 billion government contract with NASA, and the corporation regularly competes for other government contracts. Billionaires are having an enormous impact on our political system and our government — and pose a serious danger to our democracy because of their tremendous wealth (just look at Elon Musk and Bezos). Over 200,000 subscribers have canceled their subscription to the paper since the news broke on Friday. That's roughly 8% of the Post's subscribers. Workers and consumers are furious at Jeff Bezos — a billionaire should not be able to unilaterally make decisions with such massive impacts on our democracy.
