Pamela, I hope your email inbox doesn't look like mine right now.
Dozens of emails begging for last-minute campaign cash – pushing high-pressure sales tactics and dire stakes, with no way to actually tell where the best place to put resources actually is. It's not entirely unjustified – our democracy is more under threat than ever before – but finding the time to sift through all the noise and decide what causes to support is simply overwhelming.
So, in response, campaigns and super PACs are sending even more emails, desperate to fund one last ad or line one more consultant's wallet. But what does that mean for people like you and me?
If I'm being frank, a lot of the money spent this year – more than in any previous election – won't make that much of a real-life impact this late in the cycle. But sponsoring an Election Protection volunteer will.
That's because our cutting-edge, non-partisan volunteer program runs right up until polls close – guaranteeing voters an in-person, face-to-face ally as they cast their ballots.
And the unfortunate reality is, they'll need one – as they face down even more anti-voter laws than were on the books last time they voted, fueled by lies about the 2020 election. As much as I wish it wasn't true, these laws are discouraging by design – meant to confuse, frustrate, or just stress out voters so much that many just go home without casting a ballot.
That's where our volunteers come in. Our voting experts trained up thousands of folks on the voting rules for all 50 states plus D.C – and equipped them with up-to-the-minute intel to ensure that as many voters as possible can follow these new laws and make their voices heard.
The result? Each additional volunteer Common Cause can place translates into dozens of people able to exercise their rights! There's no time to waste. We're deciding on our final volunteer placements for Election Day as you read this email – which polling sites we can cover, and which ones we can't.
The good news is, we've already done the hard part – recruiting literally thousands of volunteers across the country. But now we need to finish their training, get their shifts scheduled, and build out the infrastructure they'll need to be most effective.
Fifty dollars. That's what it costs to sponsor one Election Protection volunteer, who will then go on to help countless people cast their votes, free from intimidation, suppression, and confusion at the polls.
With your donation, you can make all the difference in a first-time or long-time voter's experience. Every dollar you can give will help us train and place one more Election Protection volunteer. We can't do this without you.
Will you rush in $50 – or whatever you can – to help us train every single volunteer who signed up?
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:
Thank you for your support,
Elena Nunez, Senior Vice President of State Operations
and the team at Common Cause
