Pamela, Ensuring that every American can cast their vote freely and fairly, no matter their income, race, or zip code, is the very cornerstone of our democracy. But since the Supreme Court gutted the heart of the Voting Rights Act (VRA), this fundamental promise has been broken. For almost 50 years, the VRA had broad bipartisan support and was an unparalleled tool for guaranteeing access and combating discrimination in voting. Since the shameful Shelby decision eleven years ago, over 100 state laws to restrict the vote have been enacted. The answer is clear: Congress MUST pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act now. Send a message to your member of Congress demanding swift action to protect and expand our voting rights. For democracy to work for all of us it must include all of us. Together, we can make this a Hot Democracy Summer. -The Workers Circle |
