Friend: Good mental health well-being is essential for children, adolescents, caregivers and communities to thrive. Today, 426 million of the world’s children live in conflict-affected regions. That’s 1 in 6 children struggling with trauma, post-traumatic stress, depression, anxiety and many other devastating mental health problems. But shockingly, not even 1% of the overall global health assistance has ever been designated to address this growing crisis, leaving millions of children to suffer – often in silence – without the necessary support they need.
That’s why Save the Children is joining forces with its advocacy arm, Save the Children Action Network (SCAN), and urging Congress to pass the Mental Health in International Development and Humanitarian Settings (MINDS) Act. For the first time ever, mental health support would be mainstreamed across U.S. humanitarian assistance – helping communities achieve long-term peace and development goals and giving millions of children the care they need to heal and grow.
The MINDS Act is an important step in acknowledging the devastating impact of conflict and disaster by prioritizing mental health and psychosocial support as part of the foreign assistance help.
Thank you for being a voice for kids. Together, we can help them recover from unimaginable hardships and have the hope of a brighter future, creating change that truly will last a lifetime.
