Congress urges DOJ to prosecute Trump on four criminal charges

Yesterday, the congressional committee investigating the January 6 insurrection issued four criminal referrals against Donald Trump.

Yesterday, the congressional committee investigating the January 6 insurrection issued four criminal referrals against Donald Trump.¹

The January 6 committee is urging the Justice Department to charge Trump with:

1. inciting an insurrection,

2. conspiring to defraud the United States,
3. obstructing an official proceeding, and
4. 
making knowingly and willfully materially false statements to the federal government.²

We know that MAGA billionaires will pump millions of dollars into spreading lies and conspiracy theories in order to distract the American public from the truth—and to save Trump's campaign for president. 

Which is why MoveOn is running a huge campaign against these right-wing lies and to ensure that we get a simple, important message out: Prosecute Trump.

Andra, the DOJ can and should pursue these charges aggressively. 

Trump must be held accountable. Our nation must show that no one—including a former president—is above the law.

What's more: Prosecuting Trump could end his campaign for president. 

Section 3 of the 14th Amendment states that no one who previously took an oath to support the Constitution and engaged in "insurrection or rebellion" shall "hold any office, civil or military, under the United States."³

If Trump is prosecuted and convicted for inciting an insurrection, we would have an exceedingly strong case for banning Trump from ever holding federal office, and we can immediately terminate his campaign.
