Pamela, we're excited to share our bold plan to demand that the Biden-Harris administration does everything in their power to achieve racial justice in America. We have no time to lose. This is the critical period when the next administration is setting their priorities, Cabinet members, and senior staff. If we don't get loud, our concerns will be ignored. And what we have learned is that the only change we ever get in this country is the change we fight for. We will unpack this more below. But first: Can you add your name to our demands so the Biden-Harris administration knows that thousands of people are ready to hold them accountable? The Grassroots Law Project team hustled to get this sophisticated set of policy demands together because of the critical moment we are in. If we do not mobilize in historic numbers now, our communities and concerns will be ignored. We can't make the mistake of assuming that politicians, once elected, will keep their campaign promises. Real lives depend on enough of us demanding the bold leadership required to root out systemic racism. No more half measures. BIDEN JUSTICE DEMANDS We are calling on the Biden-Harris administration to use the powers of the Oval Office to reduce mass incarceration, measurably curb violent policing, end the war on drugs, and seek justice and accountability for families who've been directly harmed by injustice in this country. Our entire plan has nearly 55 policies that they can enact without Congress. These demands include, but are not limited to: -
Implement executive orders and department policy change including end the 1033 agreements that allows the federal government to militarize local police departments, end the policy of separating children from families at the border, and fully repeal the Muslim Ban. -
Dramatically expand the use of the pardon and commutation power by pardoning and releasing all people in federal prison incarcerated on drug charges, commute existing death sentences, and staff the office of pardons and commutations with public defenders. -
Make deep shifts in the hiring practices, culture, and philosophy away from career prosecutors by appointing qualified current or former civil rights attorneys or public defenders to major cabinet, DOJ and judicial posts including Attorney General, US Attorneys, and Federal Judges. It will take all of us (and it won't be easy), but together, we can ensure that this administration enacts the best policies for racial justice from a U.S. presidency that this country has ever seen. Sign on to demand justice from President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris right now. Let's go! Grassroots Law Project |
