In just a few hours, we'll head inside the historic Fox Theatre in Detroit to begin the second Democratic debate of 2020.
I'm really excited at this point. It can be a challenge to talk in 30-second snippets about issues that deserve a lot more time. But tonight is a big opportunity to show what our campaign is all about and why we're different.
A lot of eyes are going to be on us, from the viewers in homes across the country to the reporters wondering how our campaign will fare in the months to come.
I believe in this country. But I believe in this country because I believe in you. All of you. When I go out on stage tonight, I carry your faith in me — and in the campaign we're building together — with me.
I want you to know that your support and belief in this campaign really means so much to me. You've given me the hope and the inspiration to keep pushing every day, even during the toughest moments of the campaign.
From the beginning, I've said that it will not be one person alone who will win this primary and defeat Donald Trump. It will be all of us. Our only chance to win, our only chance to stop Trump, our only chance to create real and lasting change as we overcome every challenge before us, lies in building a grassroots movement the likes of which we haven't seen in our lifetimes. It'll take millions of us stepping up to volunteer, contribute, and share our vision. Without PACs, without corporations, without special interests, and without lobbyists. All with people. That's why I'm emailing you today.
Before big moments like tonight, I try to center myself by thinking back to why we are all doing this in the first place. I think about Ulysses, Molly, and Henry. I think about what we're going to tell them about what we did in the face of the cruelty of kids in cages, the open racism of "send them back," the unchecked tyranny of a lawless president. I want to be able to tell them that, together, we stood up and put an end to all of that, and to all the horrors of this administration.
This debate is an opportunity for our campaign. It could very well be a turning point for our country too. As I head in there, I'm deeply grateful to have you in my corner.
Beto
