Pamela,
This week, Common Cause went to court in two more states — Rhode Island and Maryland — to protect your private voter data.
Pamela, this is where the fight for a free and fair 2026 election begins – in the granular, state-by-state battles to defend your rights that Common Cause does best. We're ready to get to work wherever we're needed – thanks to your support.
Let me explain: Donald Trump clearly believes that his ticket to permanent power is to single out and silence anyone he doesn't think will support him – including people of color and naturalized citizens who worked hard to earn their right to vote.
So, he's directing MAGA loyalists in state after state to carry out his plot. And in response, Common Cause's legal team is filing cases and taking bold action to stop them in their tracks.
Why? Because if we fail here, and the 2026 election is decided not by which party persuades the most voters – but which one does a better job of rigging the rules, then American democracy is as good as dead.
That's a stark reality – and one I wish wasn't the case – but it's what we're up against, and we've made the choice to face it head on and win.
In our latest cases – Rhode Island and Maryland – we're fighting the same dangerous demand from Trump's Department of Justice: a push for states to turn over their full voter rolls, including names, addresses, and partial Social Security and driver's license numbers.
Once that data leaves state control, it could be misused, handed over to DOGE, or weaponized for political gain. That's why we're in court to stop this – and protect your privacy and your vote.
And just a few weeks ago, we took legal action in Minnesota and Pennsylvania. We even stopped Nebraska from going along with his request after we filed suit in that state against this same kind of unlawful federal data grab.
Pamela, these might seem like isolated fights – but I know you see the big picture.
When we're up against a coordinated, multi-state effort to silence our voices, we need a fighter like Common Cause – like Common Cause Minnesota, Common Cause Pennsylvania, Common Cause Nebraska, and Common Cause in your home state too.
Our legal experts are fighting for you – and for the democracy we all want to leave for the next generation.
We're proud of the strength, speed, and strategy our legal team is bringing to these cases – and even prouder to have supporters like you standing with us at this moment.
Thank you for believing in this work,
– The team at Common Cause
