On Veterans Day, stand with veterans to say NO to the militarization of our cities

Dear MoveOn member, Trump has sent the National Guard to cities across the country and has a plan to train more than 23,000 troops as "quick reaction forces" to be deployed at the snap of his fingers.1 But the National Guard is intended to serve communities in need, not be weaponized against us. That's why on Veterans Day, November 11, veterans are leading Vets Say No protests in cities that Trump has threatened with military occupation and in solidarity events across the country to stand up for our democracy, our rights, and each other. Together, we can stand with veterans and each other to say NO to ICE terrorizing our communities, NO to Republicans cutting our health care, and NO to the militarization of our cities. We refuse to allow growing fascism to be normalized. The truth is that Trump's deployments across U.S. cities are politically motivated, meant to retaliate against Trump's critics, and have nothing to do with keeping communities safe. Trump is spreading lies about our cities and scapegoating immigrants to justify the hostile takeover of our streets and attempt to force the military against us. But we are coming together in solidarity to protect each other. Trump would rather do stunts that make him feel like a tough guy—such as littering our streets with soldiers and tanks—than deliver on his promises of bringing down grocery prices and the cost of living. He doesn't care about you or me. He only cares about hoarding power and wealth for himself, his loyalists, and his billionaire buddies. Trump may be consolidating authoritarian power, but he is not invincible. He is trying to silence us because he knows he is out of bounds, and that's exactly why we will keep raising our voices, uniting peacefully in the streets, and calling out his abuses for what they are.
