Pamela – did you know that for over two years, Israel has maintained an absolute blockade on foreign press access to Gaza? And it's been the longest and most complete media ban of any modern conflict.
WIth the ceasefire in place, Israel has still refused to lift the media blockade. So what is Israel hiding? We already know that at least 239 journalists and media workers have been killed in the past two years, which makes this the deadliest period for press freedom ever documented.
For over two years, Palestinian journalists have carried the impossible burden of documenting this genocide while also fighting for their own survival. Impartial journalists are critical monitors, and their absence is a strategy. When a government blocks the press, it's because there's something to hide.
Tell Israel to immediately lift its ban on foreign journalists and grant independent, unrestricted access to Gaza.
Foreign journalists play a crucial role in a situation like this. They are able to track war crimes in real time and keep people safe. Free press isn't a privilege - it's a cornerstone of democracy and accountability, which is something Israel touts itself as.
But clearly, Israel is hiding something if they don't want to let foreign journalists in. The international community has a right to know what is happening in Gaza. We have a right to independent documentation, not sanitized military footage.
Israel can't continue to call itself a democracy while systematically and continually silencing those who document its actions for the world to see. We need Israel to let foreign journalists in immediately.
In solidarity,
