Dear MoveOn member,
For years, Donald Trump and his allies have relentlessly promoted conspiracy theories about Jeffrey Epstein and promised to release the files about his crimes as soon as they were back in power.
Earlier this year, FBI Director Kash Patel and Attorney General Pam Bondi both claimed to be reviewing thousands of documents and videos in advance of their release.1 They even gave a group of MAGA social media influencers massive binders that they claimed were filled with the Epstein files (but was actually just information that had already been made public).2
But the Trump administration lied straight to their MAGA followers' faces. Earlier this month, the FBI and DOJ released a memo saying that, actually, many of the rumored documents didn't exist and they would not be releasing any of the files.3 And since then, the entire country, including MAGA world, has been melting down.
Andra, we have all been waiting for the moment when the MAGA coalition began to break apart, and this might be it.
It is no secret the GOP has been the party for billionaires, instead of everyday American people—and this is just another example. Predators should be held accountable, and voters deserve the truth.
If we can use this inflection point to help people who have supported Trump see the truth, that he is a corrupt liar who only cares about keeping himself and his friends rich, we may finally be able to break the stranglehold that this extremist movement has had on our politics and our lives.
But Donald Trump is going to do everything in his power to push this story out of the news, change the narrative, and stop this exodus. We cannot let him succeed.
MoveOn is ready to counter Trump's lies by using our massive reach across social media to push out our own fact-based, compelling content to millions of people, by redoubling our efforts to organize volunteers in key congressional districts, and building the infrastructure we will need to usher in a massive blue wave in the midterm elections next fall. But we cannot do it without your help.
Can you make a $9 donation today to support our work to break up the MAGA coalition and win big next year? (If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately.)
Trump and his allies kept talking about Epstein during the 2024 campaign because they knew that it energized their base and would help turn out voters—especially the younger, male voters they were targeting through "manosphere" podcasts like "The Joe Rogan Experience."
And it worked. Those voters turned out and helped to tip the election for Trump.4
The announcement that the files would not be released—and the subsequent efforts by Trump to try to bury the story—has caused the MAGA base to fracture in ways we have never seen before.5
The podcasts that enthusiastically encouraged their tens of millions of listeners to vote for Trump last year are jumping ship.6
Far-right commentators Megyn Kelly, Laura Ingraham, and Charlie Kirk—and the people who listen to them—are up in arms.7
Even Republican Senator Josh Hawley called the assertion by the DOJ that the files did not exist "a little difficult to believe."8
Let's be clear, Andra: If these files do exist, the American people deserve to see them.
Millions of people, across party lines, have questions about Epstein's death in prison in 2019 and whether or not the government is covering up evidence that would implicate other rich and powerful people in his crimes—including Trump himself.
There are also hundreds of women and girls who were abused by Epstein's operation and deserve to see justice.
We cannot and will not let Trump bury this story. We must be ready to push back not just in this moment but all the way through the midterm elections and beyond.
Help ensure MoveOn has the resources to fight Trump's lies with the truth and curb however much of his power we can. Chip in $9 to help with our campaign. (If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately.)
Thanks for all you do.
