Pamela, For decades, the immigration system has failed to ensure a fair and humane process for people seeking safety, security, and stability in the United States. The executive orders enacted by President Trump yesterday will do nothing to address those failures.
Instead, these cruel and extreme actions will create chaos, waste resources, and cause irreparable harm to millions of people and their families.
Children will discover that their parents are missing at the end of the school day. Storefronts will go dark as immigrant-led businesses will close. The lives of longstanding community members will be upended. Pamela, whether we were born in this country or came here in search of a better life, we all want safety, security, and stability. We must work to defend due process and humanity in our immigration system wherever possible with sensible, evidence-based policies. |
