Dear MoveOn member,
First it was abortion. Now it's birth control. The Republican-led House Appropriations Committee has approved a plan to completely defund Title X—the only federal program dedicated to family planning—by 2025, and the House of Representatives is set to vote on it as soon as NEXT month.
Over the past 50 years, Title X has funded family planning for 195 MILLION low-income Americans.1
- Birth control
- Pregnancy testing and counseling
- Testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections
- HIV prevention education, including pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP)
- Breast and cervical cancer screening
- HPV vaccination
That—and so much more—is what's at stake for millions of people if Title X is defunded. It's clear that Republicans in Congress want to control our bodily autonomy. But every person—regardless of income, gender, or sexuality—deserves the right to decide when, if, and how to start a family. We have to fight back and demand that Congress not cut this crucial reproductive health care!
People have been sounding the alarm about Project 2025 and its threats to reproductive health care and birth control. But Project 2025 isn't a future threat—it's already in motion. And these proposed cuts to Title X are straight out of the playbook.3
Project 2025 outlines proposals to slash family planning and instead move funding toward education on "the importance of marriage."4 It is already prohibited for clinics to use Title X funding for abortion care. But the House Appropriations Committee still made explicit that it seeks to direct funds away from Planned Parenthood specifically, calling them "abortion-on-demand providers."5
They want to advance a right-wing nationalist agenda that would take us backward to a time when women, trans, and nonbinary people could not make decisions about their bodies, families, and futures.
We won't go back.
Sign the petition to tell your representatives to vote NO on attempts to defund Title X.
Thanks for all you do.
