Today is International Day of the Girl when – in spite of the most recent tragedies affecting girls and boys in Afghanistan, Israel and Gaza – we call attention to the unique issues girls face around the world.
Please take a moment to read Zaynab’s* story in honor of International Day of the Girl.
After her childhood friend was married at a young age and lost her life during childbirth, Zaynab was motivated to advocate against early marriage.
She began to use her voice to bring attention to the conflict in her homeland that limits opportunities for all children – but especially girls. Zaynab dreams of a world where girls like her can access education to create a better future for themselves and their families.
Because of our Leadership Circle's exceptional generosity, our teams are able to work around the clock to make sure her dreams become a reality.
Thanks to the support of our Leadership Circle, Zaynab was able to partner with Save the Children Nigeria to become a Girl Champion and a member of the Borno State Children’s Parliament. Now, she works to raise awareness on the barriers girls face in accessing education and what it means to be a child in Nigeria. Zaynab is a living example of what happens when girls are provided with the tools and resources to fully achieve their potential, creating a positive ripple effect in their communities.
On International Day of the Girl today, we’re proudly renewing our unwavering commitment to supporting girls in Nigeria and around the world – a commitment we know you share. Our work to make sure they grow up healthy, educated and safe will never stop, and we’re so grateful for all you do to help make that possible.
Thank you for your dedication to creating positive, irreversible change for girls and children everywhere.
