Petition to Congress: We urge you pass the tax increases on big corporations and wealthy individuals that President Biden originally proposed as part of the infrastructure bill, and reject any efforts from either party to scale them back. SIGN THE PETITION! A big fight is happening in Washington, D.C. right now. President Joe Biden has put forward his vision of an infrastructure plan that would rebuild crumbling infrastructure, invest in the clean energy we need to fight climate change, all while creating good union jobs. But Republican members of Congress want to scale back this plan. They want to majorly cut back the package, and have it paid for by user fees rather than corporate taxes. In this critical moment, we need Democratic members to step up and hold a firm line: higher taxes on the rich and on corporations must be part of this plan. The White House has said that Republicans' idea to impose user fees to cover the cost of infrastructure spending would "violate" President Biden's promise not to raise taxes on Americans making less than $400,000 annually. We agree. So do nearly two thirds of the American people. That's why Democratic members must stand together and demand that higher taxes on corporations and the wealthy remain a centerpiece of this plan. While American families are squeezing to get by, corporations are paying lower tax rates than that have in years. Prior to Trump's presidency, the corporate tax rate sat at 35%. What Joe Biden is proposing is that we move the corporate tax rate from the measly current rate of 21% up to 28%. The Biden administration said they hope to have a deal with Senate Republicans by Memorial Day, which is almost here. We need to make sure that Democrats hold a firm line. There is no reason why hard-working Americans, many already struggling to get by, should have to suck up the cost of this plan. Especially when corporations are being taxed at the lowest levels we've seen since the 1940s.
