Pamela, Just a few weeks ago, the results of the 2020 Census were announced–and the scale was tipped majorly into the GOP's favor. Both California and New York will be losing a Congressional district–which could very well affect the future elections of Katie Porter and Truth to Power candidates Mondaire Jones, Jamaal Bowman, and Ritchie Torres. These candidates are going to need the support of every one of us if they're going to defend their seats in Congress. Will you consider adding your name to help support and elect more progressive leaders in 2021 and 2022? There are a few different ways the census could change things for these candidates, Pamela. Let us break it down for you: | 1️⃣ 70% of the House seats in New York and nearly 80% of House seats in California are held by Democrats. That means depending on how the congressional districts are redrawn, our candidates districts could be split up. 2️⃣ Which could force our candidates to go up against challengers in a primary election to keep their seats. 3️⃣ The districts could also be redrawn to include more Republicans—this is especially worrisome for Katie Porter, who is already in a purple district. | We need to do all we can to prepare for the 2022 midterm elections to defend these progressive voices. Whether it's up against a primary challenger or a GOP challenger, our candidates are often put at an immediate disadvantage because they don't accept corporate PAC or lobbyist money. They rely solely on grassroots support from folks like you, Pamela. Our candidates affected by the census will need your support if they're going to keep their seats in Congress. Join us by adding your name to help elect more independent voices for change. In solidarity, Team Truth to Power |
