| SIGN NOW: We oppose Texas' HB1515 and SB8, which would allow ANYONE to sue Texans for providing access to abortions. | Pamela, The Texas House of Representatives is voting today on a bill that could supercharge abortion bans―and if enacted, it would provide a model for states around the country to end abortion care entirely. We need to mobilize now to stop this bill before it hits the governor's desk. Progress America is working with the TEA Fund, a Texas reproductive justice group, to deliver your signatures. Can you sign today to stop Texas' abortion ban? HB1515 and its Senate companion, SB8, would ban abortion outright after 6 weeks―before many women know that they're pregnant―and allow anti-abortion activists to endlessly sue abortion providers and those helping Texans get abortions. To be clear: this bill would allow ANYONE to sue Texans for providing abortion care or helping someone access abortion―meaning a rapist could sue their victim's physician. Well-funded anti-abortion groups could bankroll endless nuisance lawsuits that would bully providers across the state into closing their doors. It's not just abortion providers who would be affected: These anti-abortion groups could sue the abortion funds that can help make care more affordable, the reception staff at clinics who help book appointments, or even someone who drives a patient to their appointment. Make no mistake: abortion care is already pushed out of reach for so many Texans. Black Texans and other Texans of color face multiple barriers when accessing abortion care. This bill would push care even further out of reach. The bill will be voted on in the Texas House TODAY. If it passes, we are planning to fight it all the way to the Governor's desk, and prevent it from being copycatted in state legislatures around the country. Add your name to fight HB1515 all the way to the Governor's desk and preserve reproductive rights! Thanks, Team Progress America |
