When you factor in transportation costs, family and childcare costs, healthcare costs, and risks of exposure as vaccination rates fall, some low-wage jobs are too expensive and dangerous to return to. Of course this was true before, but the pandemic brought decades of income inequality into harsh focus. The best way to fill open positions is to pay workers well. And that also helps address our country's staggering inequality. One first step is raising the minimum wage to $15. Unfortunately, Republicans and even some Democrats, like Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema, are against raising the minimum wage to $15. But that's where you come in. Your voice matters, and if members of Congress continue to hear a drumbeat demanding a $15 minimum wage, they'll have a harder time refusing.
