| Tell the President and Congress: I want you to vote for monthly $2000 survival checks -- another single check of $1400 is not enough in this moment of crisis! I also oppose any efforts to shrink the size of the $1.9 trillion stimulus plan. | Are you going to get a $2000 check? Under Republican pressure, Biden and the Democrats are wavering, talking instead about a one-time payment of $1,400 which could take until March to be passed, and go to fewer people. But most Americans need the money now. And they need more than just another one-time check. As long as an ever-worsening pandemic keeps unemployment and eviction rates as high as they are, progressive leaders in Congress are calling for $2000 survival checks to be issued every month— payments to help with rent, groceries, and other essential needs. Can you speak up now and urge Congress to include this in the next stimulus bill? Sign the petition: Demand that Congress and Biden use their election mandate to pass monthly $2,000 survival checks through the end of the pandemic! Biden's not the only one who needs to be held accountable to promises on the campaign trail—last May, Vice President Kamala Harris was a lead author of a bill advocating for monthly $2,000 checks. Support for monthly survival checks extends beyond party lines. Recent polling data reports that the majority of voters, including Democrats and Republicans, support the federal government providing recurring monthly payments of $2,000 until the pandemic is over. But Senate Republicans want Democrats to cave. They oppose not only a $2000 monthly check, not only do they want to shrink the size of the check below $1400 and send it to fewer people, they want to shrink the overall size of the stimulus from $1.9 trillion to just $600 billion. That's not enough to get the country vaccinated or help the economy recover. The argument that survival checks are government handouts falls short upon recognizing that the government has long had money to give tax breaks to billionaires, tax deductions to the fossil fuel industry, and subsidies for pharmaceutical corporations, tech companies, and defense contractors. Many congressional progressives are advocating for more checks. Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, and Ayanna Pressley agree that "one check is not enough." Now they need your help to amplify the message and push Congress to make it happen. Sign the petition: Demand that Joe Biden and Congress use their election mandate to pass monthly $2,000 survival checks through the end of the pandemic! Team Progress |
