And Clearview AI is trying to make ICE even worse by providing terrifyingly broad "mission support" with facial recognition tech. Facial recognition is so widely known to have harmful disproportionate racial impacts that IBM publicly abandoned it. But now ICE is ramping up their reliance on it, and Congress needs to step in and block it. Sign the petition: Tell Congress to cancel ICE's contract with Clearview AI! Everything we know about Clearview AI is bad news. Before founding Clearview AI, Cam-Hoan Ton-That was a hacker who promoted Kremlin-issued misinformation during the 2016 presidential campaign. Ton-That repeatedly rubs elbows with the worst of the worst on the right, including Peter Thiel of Palantir, neo-nazi Richard Spencer, abhorrent hate-mongerer Milo Yiannopolous, and Trump's anti-immigrant architect of family separation policies Stephen Miller. Behind closed doors, Clearview AI has been working hard to create a technology that could speed up the incarceration of African Americans and the deportation of immigrants of color. But that's not all. Clearview AI has built their massive facial recognition database by scraping images and personal data from popular social media websites and DMV databases. This is done without the knowledge or consent of millions of social media users and licensed drivers. Clearview AI has a clear view of society: they think the racist alt-right wing of our country needs a high-tech upgrade to be even more effectively racist.
