I wouldn't be running for president

This is the plain truth.

Friends -

In just a minute, I am going to ask you to make a contribution to our campaign for president before the crucial end-of-quarter fundraising deadline coming up. But first let me explain why this is so important.

I would not be running for president if I had to rely on $2,800 checks from wealthy people to do so.

That's the plain truth.

The FEC fundraising deadline coming up on Monday is truthfully our biggest one yet. Some of my opponents are attending dozens of fancy fundraisers with members of the billionaire class in order to try and out-raise our campaign.

We chose to run for president a different way — and to my mind, the only way. And that is with millions of contributions from working people chipping in whatever they can afford in order to transform our country.

Today I am asking if you can make your first contribution to our campaign before this FEC fundraising deadline.

Please make a contribution of $2.70 — or of whatever you can afford right now, less or more — to our campaign so that we can meet our goals for this deadline, win this election, defeat Donald Trump, and transform our country.

I am proud that not a single billionaire has donated to our campaign. I am even more proud that people who work for Walmart, Amazon, Starbucks, and schools are some of our most common donors, and that 1 million people have contributed overall.

Because we want to truly transform our country — because we want to pass Medicare for All, enact a Green New Deal, eliminate medical and student loan debt, and do so much more — the only way we can win is with millions of people chipping in what they can.

When we win this election, it will be because millions of people stepped up to say that enough is enough, and that it is time our government worked for all of us, not the billionaire class.

Can I count on you to make a $2.70 contribution to our campaign before our big FEC fundraising deadline? Please make yours now.

Thank you for all you do for our campaign.

In solidarity,

Bernie Sanders
