Can I explain?

With just a few days left until we close the books for February, I am reaching out with a modest request. My team is telling me we're behind on the internal fundraising goals we set for our campaign this month.

That's why, in a moment, I am going to ask you to make a grassroots donation to our campaign for president. But first, I hope you will let me explain why it is so important.

Our campaign is not taking a dime from corporate PACs or lobbyists -- and that was a very deliberate choice. Yes, it means we are leaving money on the table. But that's ok with me. I never want there to be any question about whether I'm listening to the people or corporate lobbyists. The answer will always be the people.

However, this means we need to raise that money in other ways -- often with the help of people who donate to emails just like this one. Grassroots contributions aren't just sustaining our movement: they're powering it.

Right now, this race is wide open. The choices we make now in these early months will set the tone and pace for the rest of our campaign. And I am running to win -- so we are pushing this team as hard as we can, because there is just no other option. That is why I'm asking:

Can I count on you to make a contribution to help reach our end-of-month fundraising goal? I wouldn't ask if your support didn't make a difference:

If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:

If we are going to make history in 2020, falling short of this goal is simply not an option. But I know that, with your help, we will get there.

As always, I'm deeply grateful for everything you do.

Thank you,

— Kamala Harris
