Dear MoveOn member,
Donald Trump's budget assault on working people is here. And it's exactly what we feared.
Next week, Trump, his wealthy allies, and his cronies in Congress will take the next step to gut the food assistance and health care programs millions of working Americans rely on daily: Medicaid for people with disabilities, Medicare and Social Security for seniors, Meals on Wheels and SNAP for low-income families, and so much more.1
Their goal is to pass Trump's massive tax giveaway for billionaires by Memorial Day. With less than a month to go, the clock is ticking.
But here's the good news: We can win this fight.
Republicans in Congress are deeply divided over these cuts. Their slim majority means they can lose only FOUR votes out of their 220 members to pass this budget. Four votes stand between Trump's plan and defeat.
And thanks to our monthslong pressure campaign, a dozen House Republicans have already written a letter warning they won't support cuts to Medicaid.2
Our mobilizations are working. But we can't stop now. That's why MoveOn is scaling up our campaign work and mobilizing in full force:
-
Our nationwide petition against federal aid cuts has already gathered more than 131,000 signatures.3
-
We're flooding Congress with calls, targeting persuadable Republicans in moderate districts who know they don't represent MAGA districts to pressure them to reject Trump's cuts.
-
We've launched a rapid-response website where organizers can get the latest information and take immediate action.4
Our strategy is clear: Target persuadable Republicans who know their constituents depend on these programs. With MoveOn members in every congressional district in America, we have the power to make representatives feel the heat from their own voters.
But this kind of strategic, targeted organizing requires resources. Will you donate $9 right now to help us stop Trump's billionaire-first budget? (If you have saved your payment information with ActBlue, your donation will go straight through.)
While Trump is meeting with billionaires like Elon Musk to plan how to redirect our tax dollars to their pockets, everyday Americans are wondering how they'll afford health care, put food on the table, and secure their retirement.
The stakes couldn't be higher. If Trump and the Republicans' budget passes:
- Families who rely on SNAP could lose food assistance.
- Millions could see their health care coverage through Medicaid and Medicare threatened.
- Critical research into cancer, diabetes, and Alzheimer's could be even further threatened.
- Social Security benefits that seniors have earned over a lifetime of work could be at risk.
These aren't abstract concerns; these are real impacts on millions of people in communities across America.
House Speaker Mike Johnson is storming ahead to get this legislation to Trump's desk by Memorial Day. Which means we don't have much time to act.
But, remember, we've won these fights before. In 2017, we stopped Trump from gutting the Affordable Care Act through grassroots pressure. We can do it again.
Your support today will help us organize phone banks, equip local advocates with resources, and ensure that every Republican hears from their constituents. Please, if you are able, rush a $9 donation right now. (If you have saved your payment information with ActBlue, your donation will go straight through.)
When ordinary Americans stand together, we have extraordinary power. Let's use it.
Thanks for all you do.
–Nakia, Amanda D., Aliya, Rahna, and the rest of the team
P.S. Republicans are already fighting among themselves over these cuts. With your help, we can drive a wedge within the Republican Party and stop these devastating cuts. Please donate $9 today to power our campaign. (If you have saved your payment information with ActBlue, your donation will go straight through.)
