1️⃣ Georgia: Legislators meet to create new district maps ahead of a key election year In Georgia, a special legislative session began Wednesday to redraw the state's political maps after a federal judge ruled that the current district lines illegally dilute the power of Black voters. Fairer maps would be a huge win for Democrats and voters statewide → 2️⃣ Arizona: Republicans to face charges for delaying election certification In Arizona, after their attempts to undermine democratic processes, two AZ Republicans are now facing charges of interfering with an election officer and conspiracy. This is a step toward GOP accountability for widespread election denialism → 3️⃣ Ohio: State supreme court dismisses cases calling for fair redistricting In Ohio, after a years-long fight, the supreme court dismissed Democrats' efforts to redraw the maps, and upheld the Republicans' gerrymandered maps → 📖 Read: "Which states could get new congressional maps in 2024?" Redistricting challenges have become the new frontier of voting rights and equal access to the ballot. With courts finding that Republican-drawn maps are illegal for the ways in which they disenfranchise marginalized voters, calls to reconsider the maps have sprung up nationwide.
