I'm Valeria from the MoveOn Petition Platform Team, which helps MoveOn members launch and support petitions across the country, and I wanted to thank you for everything you did during GOTV!
You canvassed, made calls, sent texts, and vote tripled at your polling place—and none of that was taken for granted. So many races have been decided by thin margins, and we know we all helped make that difference. Because of you and your efforts, progressives and Democrats were elected across the country, held the Senate majority, and defeated election deniers for roles that run our elections.
We know that in this midterm election, our fundamental rights were at stake—and the need to protect them continues.
All across the country, newly elected officials are stepping into their roles, and soon they will start making changes in our society—either breaking or fulfilling the promises they made while campaigning in our communities. They won't know what you care about unless you tell them.
Start a petition. Change starts at a local level, petitions are a powerful tool for fighting for the well-being of our community, and they are most effective when a community comes together around local issues that directly impact their lives.
Think about an important issue in your community. Do your elected officials know about it, or are they ignoring it? Would public pressure lead them to take action? Do other members of your community also find this issue frustrating?
If you answered yes to at least one of these questions, then it's time for you to start a petition!
We've seen what happens when we come together to make a change. Will you start a MoveOn petition on an issue you care about or an issue that is impacting your community?
What does your community care the most about?
Would you like your local government to allocate its budget funds toward helping small businesses instead of incentivizing large corporations to move to your community?
Have you noticed that your local police department has issues of race and policing in different regions of town?
Is your local government providing inclusive accommodations to all members of your community?
Is everyone in your community being served equally?
These are some frequent issues across the country affecting communities at a local level, and the truth is that if we don't speak out around these issues, nothing will change.
This is the perfect time for a change. Newly elected officials are taking office, and we must show them what issues are most important to us.
We invite you to use our free petition tool to start a petition and take the first step toward making a direct change your community needs.
It takes just one person to point out an issue for everyone to see and support it. Start a petition today, and together we can create a world where everyone's voice is heard. MoveOn makes it free and easy to start a petition about something you know about and care about, and if it gains traction, we can share it with more and more MoveOn members and help it grow.
Thanks for all you do.
