Dear MoveOn member,
In North Carolina, the Republican running for a U.S. Senate seat was endorsed by Donald Trump last year with these words: "He will fight like hell."1
It is no coincidence that Trump used these exact same words on January 6, when he told his supporters to "fight like hell" as they prepared to storm the Capitol on his behalf.2
But thankfully, in the race to flip this seat blue, we actually have a remarkable woman running on our side. Someone who allows us to not simply vote against someone who will take America backward but for someone who shows us the hope we need to bring out our best: former North Carolina Supreme Court justice Cheri Beasley.
Cheri Beasley is a mom, a former public defender, judge, and the first Black woman to serve as chief justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court. She has spent her life fighting to keep communities safe—and as a U.S. senator, I know she will join me in fighting to create good-paying jobs and to expand quality health care.3
And on an issue I have been advocating on for decades, criminal justice reform, Cheri was the first state chief justice in the nation to speak out after the murder of George Floyd. She called on all of us to "acknowledge the disparities that exist and are too often perpetuated by our justice system."4
But it wasn't just words for Justice Beasley. She took on the school-to-prison pipeline, expanded drug treatment and mental health courts, and has committed to working in the U.S. Senate to end the most egregious mandatory minimums, end cash bail for nonviolent offenders, and vote for the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.5
However, in all the greatness she will achieve as a U.S. senator, I would be remiss if I didn't take a minute to mention that if we can flip this seat blue, it all but guarantees we will keep Mitch McConnell in the minority. I am sure I don't have to express too strongly to a MoveOn member how important that is as we try to address the filibuster and codify Roe v. Wade.
And with the latest polling showing that Cheri has not only closed the gap but taken a lead, flipping this seat is no longer a pipe dream.6 It can happen with your help.
Thanks for all you do for America.
–Senator Cory Booker

Donald Trump and his allies are methodically enacting a plan to place some of Trump's most ardent supporters in key election offices that oversee vote counting, have the power to certify—or decertify—election results, and declare election winners and losers. We've launched a powerful, multimillion-dollar campaign to stop Trump. But we need your help to power our effort.
