The coronavirus pandemic has emphasized the dire need to protect and expand voting rights. Friends,
Yesterday, I introduced the VoteSafe Act, legislation that expands voting options and improves the safety and accessibility of polling places across the nation.
The coronavirus pandemic has emphasized the dire need to protect and expand voting rights.
However, even before the pandemic, Native Americans, Black and Latinx voters, and voters with disabilities too often faced long lines, inaccessible voting locations, and outright hostility by election officials.
It's time we make voting safe and accessible for ALL Americans. My bill would do 4 important things:
- Authorize $5 billion to expand vote-by-mail and early voting to improve the safety and accessibility of polling places during the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Require states to permit no-excuse mail-in absentee voting.
- Require states to maintain an early voting period of at least 20 days.
- Provide grants for states to improve the safety, efficiency, and reliability of polling places.
I'm proud to announce the VoteSafe Act because the American people deserve a comprehensive solution to ensure that voting is safe and accessible. If you are with me, will you sign on today?
Add your name to say you support my plan to make voting safe and accessible to all Americans. Together, we can make sure every American's vote is counted.
So many have marched, protested, fought and died for the fundamental right to vote.
We owe it to them to make sure that no matter what circumstances we face, all Americans will be afforded the right to cast their ballot.
Thank you for adding your name to support my plan to project our elections.
My very best,
Kamala
