I need to share a cold, hard truth with you:
Running for president is really expensive.
And, unless you're a billionaire who can afford to spend your personal fortune to compete, you've got to raise a lot of money -- and sometimes, you've got to make hard decisions.
At the end of October, our campaign manager, Juan, shared the devastating news that we'd had to make some really heavy cuts to ensure our campaign could keep going -- including laying off some of our incredible staff. We made the strategic decision to go all-in on Iowa, a primary state where we're going to need to do well.
These cuts were heartbreaking, and not a decision that any of us took lightly. But, with the limited resources we have, and with so many candidates still running for president, it's been tougher and tougher to raise the funds we need.
This week's debate has given our grassroots team a renewed energy. I went out on that stage and sent a message to all of our supporters: we're still in this fight -- and we're going to fight like hell to make sure I'm on that debate stage in 2020 facing off against Donald Trump.
That's where you come in. Right now, we're still pacing behind where we need to be if we're going to reach our monthly fundraising target.
