The warning signs are all blinking red

We must stop Trump's nuclear testing plans before it's too late.  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏

The warning signs are all blinking red, Pamela: Trump has never been closer to shattering a 30-year moratorium on tests that aim to create weapons capable of global annihilation.

The Doomsday Clock, already terrifyingly close to midnight, will soon be reset — and all signs point to apocalypse. The public is coming to terms with this horrible truth: nearly half of Americans believe a nuclear war is likely within the next decade.[1]

It's not hard to see why. Shortly after Trump recklessly instructed the Pentagon to "immediately" begin testing nuclear weapons last month, the impacts began to ripple. Within days, Russian President Vladimir Putin promised to do the same. It could quickly spiral into another nuclear arms race that only ends in disaster.

That's why our team is digging in on an ambitious, multi-pronged, and crucially important campaign to avoid a doomsday scenario: Derail attempts to restart testing before they begin, urge every DC decision-maker who will listen to hold the line on arms control treaties, and fight tooth-and-nail to block any effort to pad the Pentagon budget with money for more dangerous, unnecessary, and unaffordable weapons.

As officials attempt to walk back Trump's dangerous idea to restart nuclear weapons testing, the White House is only doubling down on its troubling assertion that "all decision-making authority lies with the President."[2]

Trump's ominous threat comes at an incredibly fragile moment, Pamela: In just over a month, the LAST treaty capping the world's largest nuclear arsenals is set to expire. The New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START) and its predecessors have limited both the U.S. AND Russian nuclear arsenals since 1991. Without a new agreement, either government could soon build and deploy as many nukes as they want — and other countries are likely to follow suit.

Restarting tests will only fan the flames of a fire that could destroy us all by emboldening other nations, accelerating a global arms race, and dragging the world back toward the brink of nuclear catastrophe.

The good news is that we've helped build a coalition of powerful members of Congress, including champions who have already introduced legislation that would block any return to explosive nuclear testing, support New START, and more. Which means a downward race to the bottom isn't inevitable. We CAN stop this, but we can't do it alone. Are you in?

Nuclear scientists are unequivocal: there is nothing to gain from resuming nuclear testing, but Pamela, we have everything to lose.

A future with more nuclear weapons is a fate we can — and must — avoid. We owe it to ourselves and future generations to stop this nightmare from unfolding further.

Thank you for working for peace,
