Pamela, Trump is robbing every single American of our rights and our resources, and the Supreme Court is driving his getaway car.
Justices Barrett and Kavanaugh asked about the "endpoint" of the Voting Rights Act, signaling they want to end the key civil rights law which prevents race-based voter suppression and paving the way for Trump to manipulate the 2026 midterms. [1]
And in the first 20 weeks of the Trump administration, they've used the shadow docket – a rule that allows them to issue binding decisions without Justices signing their names to it or even explaining their reasoning – 19 times. Pamela, that's the same number of requests that the Biden Administration made in four years. [2]
Make no mistake, this is all part of the right's master plan: stack the courts to all but guarantee a future where they can gut our rights, dismantle our checks and balances, and pave the way for his authoritarian rule.
And as long as the Supreme Court keeps acting as a rubber stamp on Trump's extreme agenda, ordinary people will keep losing faith in the Court's ability to impartially interpret our laws.
Please confirm your response: What grade would you give the Supreme Court based on their recent actions and decisions?
From rolling back reproductive freedoms, to attacks on birthright citizenship and our 14th Amendment rights – their decisions read like they're straight out of the far right's political playbook. These justices, who are being wined and dined by right-wing megadonors, aren't giving us much reason to believe they're acting impartially or working to uphold justice. Reform to hold them accountable is way overdue.
Common Cause is shining a spotlight on how this compromised court is siding with President Trump time and time again – as he and Stephen Miller try to build a future where nobody but their chosen few can be safe or prosper in this country.
Until the Court adopts meaningful reforms, the public can't trust that its decisions are free from partisan influence and corruption. Please take a moment to complete our Supreme Court Accountability Survey >>
As the court grows ever more politicized, our constitutional rights grow more vulnerable by the second. This isn't justice. This is a betrayal of everything the Court is supposed to stand for.
We appreciate your input,
The team at Common Cause
