First: Trump launched illegal, unauthorized deadly bombings in the Caribbean using the Navy's most lethal warship.
Then: He announced that he authorized CIA action in Venezuela and that U.S. officials are reportedly working on plans for a land strike there.
Now: We're careening toward an unnecessary, illegal war. We've been in this situation before, and we don't like how it turns out.
This is dangerous, Pamela. This war has the potential to combine two of the biggest failures of the Republican Party: the war on drugs and forced regime changes.
The president should not be conducting extrajudicial assassinations around the world based on mere accusations. We're heading into a war that we can't get out of – and it's only getting worse. Does that sound familiar?
Knowing Trump, this will only escalate. Millions of people around the world are at risk, and we have tools at our disposal to ensure we can avoid a war.
Now, it's time for Congress to step in and assert its authority. Tell your members of Congress to pass a war powers resolution and prevent another decades-long, endless war, this time with Venezuela.
In solidarity,
Mike Phelan
