Pamela: Trump has weaponized the U.S. government to suppress dissent — detaining students speaking out against the genocide in Gaza, unleashing the Department of Justice (DOJ) against foundations that support human rights, and leveraging the Federal Communications Commission to silence criticism.
It's an unprecedented and terrifying attack on the rights that underpin our democracy. It could get worse yet: a new bill threatens the future of non-profits like Win Without War.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) introduced the Stop FUNDERs Act (S.2376, H.R.4620), which would target groups like ours who are pushing back on Trump's hateful, divisive policies and criminalize them for backing peaceful demonstrations like the No Kings protests.
This bill is an assault on the First Amendment, and it'll take ALL of us exercising our rights to make sure it fails. To ensure lawmakers reject this dangerous legislation, they need to hear from constituents like you, Pamela.

Sen. Cruz went on national TV last month to argue that October's peaceful, powerful No Kings protests "may well be riots all across the country."[1]
His legislation would add 'rioting' to the list of offenses for the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act, which is used to prosecute organized crime leaders.
Pamela, exercising our constitutional rights is no crime. But if Sen. Cruz and others have their way, No Kings Day marches, anti-ICE sit-ins, rallies against the genocide in Gaza, and more — along with the groups uplifting them all — could soon be under the DOJ's microscope.
The scary truth is, this is just the latest in a series of actions intended to criminalize dissent and scare people away from participating in democracy.
White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller has long vowed to use RICO to "dismantle" left-wing groups, which has prompted a multi-agency effort to topple "liberal" nonprofits.[2] Trump has also introduced NSPM-7, a terrifying "National Security" directive singling out left-wing activists and authorizing a 4,000-strong enforcement arm of the FBI to "investigate and disrupt" organizations the administration views as a threat.[3]
Passing the Stop FUNDERs Act would only further enable a Trump administration keen to suppress anyone who disagrees with their violent, hateful approach. But we refuse to be silenced — and that's why we need you to use your voice now.
Tell Congress: Protect the First Amendment. Say NO to the Stop FUNDERs Act.
Thank you for working for peace,
