Dear Pamela,
This year, the Trump administration's policies have endangered our communities and undermined justice—tearing apart families and driving mass incarceration.
At Vera, we know that justice is not optional. Everyone deserves to feel safe and to be treated with basic fairness and dignity.
These values and the communities we serve guide our work to transform the criminal justice and immigration systems, no matter what challenges or attacks we face.
Vera is still on the frontlines of the fight for justice, thanks to the support of generous people like you. |
- When the United States Department of Justice terminated roughly $820 million in grants for life-saving work that makes communities across the country safer, Vera and our partners filed a class action lawsuit to win back this funding.
|
- Vera scaled up our efforts to defend basic fairness, human dignity, and justice for immigrants. Our Safety and Fairness for Everyone (SAFE) Network operates in 70 jurisdictions across 14 states, providing crucial support to people who would otherwise face the immigration system alone.
|
- In Louisiana, we successfully supported efforts to defeat a harmful constitutional amendment that would have made it easier to funnel young people into the adult criminal legal system.
|
Transforming the criminal justice and immigration systems is generational work that requires persistence both when the winds are favorable and when there are storm clouds ahead.
Pamela, remember this: We are not powerless. A better future is possible—but only if we fight for it.
As we approach Giving Tuesday on December 2, I hope you will keep Vera in mind and join us in sustaining this work. I'm so grateful to be in this fight with you. |
