Pamela: In a stunning, dangerous reversal of a decades-long policy, Trump just ordered the Pentagon to start testing nuclear weapons, something the U.S. government hasn't done since 1992.
The absolute last thing we should be doing is removing the guardrails that limit Trump's ability to unleash nuclear war. But that's exactly what will happen on February 5, 2026, if the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START) is allowed to expire — and restarting testing only fuels the fire.
New START, the latest version of a treaty dating back to 1991, limits both the U.S. AND Russian nuclear arsenals. That means for the first time in decades, both countries could soon build and deploy as many nukes as they want — no questions asked.
The clock is ticking, so we're turning our sights to Capitol Hill — where legislation has been introduced in both chambers of Congress calling for continued arms control agreements between the United States and Russia. Today, we need you to join us in speaking out to make sure H.Res.100/S.Res.61 and H.Res.317 are a priority for lawmakers and are passed before the last thread of global arms control expires.
| ACT NOW |
Maybe you've seen House of Dynamite on Netflix, a new fictional film playing out the U.S. government's reaction to a nuclear doomsday scenario.
Maybe you've been alarmed by the Russian military's recent nuclear weapons test.
Maybe you've been put off by the Trump administration's decision to furlough 80% of the National Nuclear Security Administration amidst the ongoing government shutdown — the agency tasked with keeping our nuclear stockpile secure.[1]
Or maybe you, like us, are simply concerned about Trump having the unfettered ability to build, test, and deploy nuclear weapons in a world with NO nuclear arms treaties.
Regardless of what's driving your advocacy right now, the important thing is that we band together to demand action from our lawmakers to avoid doomsday. Now.
For decades, the U.S. government poisoned water, land, and people to build and test bombs. Indigenous communities, uranium miners, servicemembers, and others were unknowingly and knowingly exposed to radiation for years. Many still suffer long-term health impacts. But advocates like us not only pushed to put those tests on ice, they led the charge for global arms control.
It's time to pick up where we left off. As we desperately pull e-brakes to halt Trump's speed run toward violent authoritarianism, it's easy to overlook that critical, decades-old checks on nuclear weapons are about to vanish
But you can help change that today, Pamela, by joining Win Without War, tens of thousands of activists, and organizational partners in this space to demand Congress keep the lid on Russian and U.S. nuclear arsenals.
February 5, 2026, will be here before we know it, but we can't afford to wait — not when the stakes are this high.
Because if Congress doesn't act, we'll be left without any limits on nuclear weapons for the first time in decades. The good news? A future with more nuclear weapons is a fate we can avoid by speaking out now.
Thank you for working for peace,
The Win Without War team
