Pamela: Trump's reckless plans to restart U.S. nuclear weapons testing could shatter a three-decade-long moratorium. It's already kick-started a new phase of a deadly nuclear arms race as Russian President Vladimir Putin responds with threats to restart their testing programs.
Don't forget: A successful nuclear test means building a weapon capable of global 'annihilation.'
The good news is that without funding, Trump's testing plans can't happen — meaning Congress has the power to stop this before the countdown begins. That's where we come in.
If we overwhelm Congress with demands to oppose nuclear weapons testing, we can stop this terrifying plan before Trump drags us any closer toward nuclear catastrophe.

Trump officials may have walked back his call to set off nuclear explosions, but that doesn't change the fact that ANY move to restart testing still means detonating dangerous explosives — putting communities at risk and escalating tensions globally.
Nuclear scientists are clear: there is little to be gained from resuming tests. All they would do is embolden others, spurring a terrifying arms race nobody wants.[1] Activists and multiple governments from across the globe agreed. That's why the last U.S. nuclear weapons test was in 1992. The Soviet Union stopped in 1990, and China and France stopped in 1996.
We're already seeing the consequences of restarting testing play out in real time. But while two nuclear-armed strongmen drag us closer toward a new Cold War, frontline communities will pay the price for their decisions.
Thousands of U.S. nuclear tests from 1945 to 1992 left generations of people — from states including Nevada and Utah to nations like the Marshall Islands — facing horrific consequences: cancer, poisoned land and water, and destroyed homes.
We've been here before and know how the story of nuclear testing ends. But for more than 30 years, we've helped chart a different path — and today we must stay the course.
The good news is we can still stop this testing before it starts. Multiple pieces of legislation from champions like Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) and Rep. Dina Titus (D-NV) have already been introduced in Congress — but without more support and momentum, we'll quickly move closer to a dangerous return to the era of nuclear weapons testing.
That's why we need to flood Congressional offices with tens of thousands of messages demanding they reject even a single penny towards restarting nuclear weapons testing.
Thank you for working for peace,
The Win Without War team
