There are NO KINGS in the United States

We need to ensure as many people as possible reject Trump's authoritarianism on October 18. ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏

Pamela: Trump is quickly making good on his vow to use our cities as military "training grounds," deploying hundreds of National Guard troops across the country. The impacts of Trump's deployments on our communities, not to mention on troop morale, have been painful enough. But his "war from within" is only getting started.

Trump has recently, repeatedly threatened to invoke the Insurrection Act to send soldiers with the power to arrest and detain into our cities and towns.[1] This would be terrifying and unprecedented — and a rapid escalation of Trump's authoritarian takeover. It's the move of a dictator, or a wannabe king.

There are NO KINGS in the United States, Pamela, which is why Win Without War is joining millions this Saturday in a massive, peaceful show of resistance to authoritarian rule and the military occupation of our cities.

July's No Kings Day dwarfed Trump's egotistical birthday tank parade. Since then, we've been in an all-out sprint alongside movement partners including Indivisible, MoveOn, and dozens of others. Together, we're sharing resources, protecting communities at risk, defending our democracy, and ensuring as many people as possible across the country reject Trump's authoritarianism on October 18, and all the days that follow.

Pamela, the chilling moments don't stop with Trump's threats. White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller was asked live on CNN whether the administration would comply with a federal judge's ruling blocking Trump's illegal deployment of the National Guard in Oregon. His answer? "The President has plenary authority."[2]

Let's be clear what "plenary authority" is: "power that is wide-ranging, broadly construed, and often limitless for all practical purposes."[3] Members of Trump's inner circle aren't hiding the fact that they believe the president's power is absolute. Limitless.

It's the language of absolute monarchy, of an authoritarian. Not of democracy.

When the Trump administration tells us their plans, we need to believe them. Because as we've seen so many times in the past 269 days, these words aren't empty threats — they're part of a deliberate attempt to normalize the idea that the president can ignore the Constitution and unleash the power of the federal government against the very people it should be supporting and defending.

Unless we show the world that the people across the country reject the future Trump's building — with millions in the streets in nonviolent protest — he will take our silence as permission. So this weekend, let's show Trump that the people believe in democracy, and we're not done defending it.

Thank you for working for peace,
The Win Without War team

P.S. More than 2,500 nonviolent protests have been planned across the country in what's shaping up to be one of the largest demonstrations in modern-day history this Saturday, October 18. Click here to find a No Kings Day of Peaceful Action event near you!
