In the dead of night, armed federal agents in military fatigues raided a Chicago apartment building, breaking down doors and pulling hundreds of people — many of them children — from their homes, where agents detained them, zip-tied, for hours.[1] Across the city, agents have been indiscriminately teargassing crowds of people, despite court orders.[2]
Pamela, this is the horrifying reality of Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE).
These military-style raids aren't making our communities safer. Families are afraid to go outside, with increased reports of people keeping their kids out of school, skipping medical appointments, and staying home from work.
Some members of Congress are already calling for an end to ICE's reign of terror and introducing legislation to protect immigrants. But we need to build and strengthen a majority of lawmakers willing to take action in response to the horrors we're witnessing to end these raids and keep people safe. The most effective way to do that? A massive wave of public pressure from constituents like you, Pamela.
Tell Congress: NO more ICE raids! Hands off our communities.
| ACT NOW |
ICE agents recently shot a pastor in the head with a pepper ball while he prayed outside an immigration facility, tear gassed peaceful protestors including Congressional candidates, clergy, and elected officials, and fatally shot a man during a vehicle stop. All that was just one month in Illinois.
It starts at the top. The agency is under pressure from the Trump administration to adopt more aggressive tactics as top advisors like Stephen Miller push for broad, sweeping raids. The amount of money spent on arming ICE has jumped 700% this year, with a staggering $70 million going directly toward guns, armor, and chemical weapons.[3]
ICE violence against any person, regardless of their legal status, is deplorable and worthy of condemnation. What's become abundantly clear is that ICE will commit violence against any person — that includes U.S. citizens, who are frequently among those being dragged, tackled, beaten, tased, and shot.
If you're like so many others, wondering 'what more will it take for more leaders to speak out? To put an end to these horrifying raids?' you're not alone.
We don't have to wait for the answer. Instead, we're demanding elected officials act — and the way we do that is by sending a message, tens of thousands of people strong, representing all corners of the country, that ensures they put an end to ICE's lawlessness.
Thank you for working for peace,
