Pamela – For decades, America's wealthiest families have gamed the system, growing richer and more powerful without even paying taxes on most of their income.
Working people pay taxes on each one of their paychecks. But billionaires avoid taxes on the growth of their stock portfolios, real estate and private business holdings, where they make their money. Why is a public school teacher paying more in taxes than Jeff Bezos?
A new piece of legislation is making its way through congress: Billionaires Income Tax, which would require the top 0.01% to pay a minimum 23.8% tax rate on all of their income, which includes both their regular earnings and unrealized capital gains. Tell Congress to Tax the Rich!
If passed, this means billionaires would finally pay taxes on the wealth they accumulate every year, just like we do on wages. Taxing the extremely wealthy is popular; poll after poll shows strong bipartisan support for making the wealth pay their fair share.
Billionaires already have too much power; they're controlling our government and media. Just imagine how much worse it would get if they continue to have unfettered money and power.
It's time for us to fight back against the extremely wealthy. They should pay their fair share in taxes, just like we do. A majority of Americans agree: Congress, pass the Billionaires Income Tax bill.
