A far-right legal group that Stephen Miller co-founded is trying to impose a national "show your papers" rule that's straight from the GOP's failed anti-voter SAVE Act. It would force Americans to show costly documents like passports or birth certificates just to register to vote. [1] It's a voter suppression scheme that could silence millions of eligible Americans. Miller's allies have already flooded the Elections Assistance Commission (EAC) with thousands of comments – we need your voice to push back now. TAKE ACTION NOW: Submit a comment to the EAC. Follow this simple three-step process to submit your comment. It only takes a minute – and you can remain anonymous if you'd like. Go to the EAC website. Visit the Elections Assistance Commission portal here >> Write your comment. Go to the "Comment" section and share a short message opposing the rule. Here are examples you can use – we encourage you to personalize them: "I strongly oppose this rule, which could block 21 million eligible Americans from voting just because they don't have access to expensive government documents like a passport or birth certificate. It would disenfranchise rural voters, anyone who has gotten married and changed their last name, and working families – without improving election security." OR "I oppose this rule that would silence American citizens – forcing us to spend money and time getting government documents just to register to vote. The current legal requirements are enough!" But their unpopular SAVE Act already failed in Congress, and this "show your papers" tactic was blocked by the courts when Trump tried to impose it by executive order.
