Pamela, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is detaining more people than ever before. It does so under a veil of secrecy, sharing only limited, often error-prone information with the public.
This failure to regularly release accurate and complete data enables ICE to operate its multi-billion-dollar detention network with little oversight. For example, Vera analysis found that while ICE acknowledged using just 163 detention facilities on its website, people were being detained in 436 facilities as of June.
To shine a light on our nation's cruel expansion of mass incarceration, Vera created a new interactive data tool, the ICE Detention Trends dashboard. It reveals an unprecedented level of detail about ICE detention populations. |
