Pamela,
We all deserve to feel like our government is looking out for us. But when government power is used to terrorize rather than protect — to divide rather than serve — democracy itself is in danger.
Now, Donald Trump – hoping to distract from skyrocketing costs of living caused by his billionaire-first agenda – is ramping up his war on our immigrant neighbors.
He's sowing fear and sending armed troops onto our streets in cities like Chicago and Los Angeles, kidnapping law-abiding immigrants and tearing families apart under the guise of "law and order."
The result? Children are afraid to leave for school, parents are afraid to show up to work, and people who've called this country home for decades are wondering if they still belong.
Common Cause rejects Trump's efforts to spread fear, silence, and control. If anyone's freedoms are at risk, all of ours are – and the very same machinery used to round up immigrant families is already being turned on protesters, journalists, or anyone who dares to dissent. [1]
That's why Common Cause is standing shoulder-to-shoulder with our local partners who are defending our immigrant neighbors against these attacks – organizing legal defense funds, monitoring raids, and defending the basic promise of liberty for all.
And today, we're asking you to join us.
Pamela, our movement for democracy has always been rooted in the idea that power belongs to the people — all people. When leaders turn the full force of our government against our neighbors, it's our duty to fight back.
This moment demands courage, compassion, and collective action. By standing in solidarity — whether by donating, volunteering, or amplifying local immigrant justice groups — you are protecting the democracy we all depend on.
Because freedom for all means freedom for everyone.
With resolve,
– The team at Common Cause
P.S. When reporters and observers are attacked for documenting ICE violence, our whole democracy suffers. Join us on this upcoming Wednesday (10/22) for an urgent discussion on how we protect those who bear witness — and stand in solidarity with immigrant justice movements everywhere >>
