The Super Bowl is one of the only times where people across the country, no matter their political affiliation, gather together to enjoy an American institution. But Trump sees it as another opportunity to divide and conquer America.
The NFL chose one of America's most popular musicians to perform at halftime―just like they have for decades. Bad Bunny, the performer in question, raps in Spanish―and has been the #1 most streamed artist on Spotify for 3 years in the past decade. Bad Bunny was born in America. He is an American.
But because Trump's brand of nationalism doesn't have anything to do with the Constitution, he's threatening to have ICE invade the Super Bowl to harass Bad Bunny and his fans.
Tell Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to keep ICE out of the Super Bowl and out of our cities!
Bad Bunny is from Puerto Rico. This is Bad Bunny's only stop in the United States on this tour, citing his fear that ICE would raid his concerts to racially target fans who are immigrants. And you know what? The Trump administration is proving him right.
Since Bad Bunny was named the halftime performer, racist and anti-immigrant rhetoric exploded. But Bad Bunny isn't an immigrant; he's an American. Puerto Rico is part of the United States, whether these racists like it or not.
Our communities have had enough of ICE's brutalization. Tell Kristi Noem and the Department of Homeland Security enough is enough and to stop using military troops and ICE to terrorize our cities in submission.
Thank you,
Mike Phelan
