Pamela: Days ago, Senators Adam Schiff and Tim Kaine forced a vote on a War Powers Resolution (WPR) to block Trump from inciting a war in Latin America amidst multiple illegal strikes that have left more than a dozen dead.
51 senators ultimately acquiesced to Trump's unjustified strikes by voting against the WPR, even though multiple Republicans broke from their party to rebuke the administration's violent, destabilizing approach to our neighbors.
These senators failed to meet the moment, when leadership on matters of war and peace is desperately needed. But this fight is far from over. Congress will have more opportunities to exert its constitutional war powers in the coming days, especially with a new WPR already in the works in the Senate.
If we want to ensure these senators change course and flip the handful of votes necessary to stop Trump's warmongering, they need to hear from you.
No one wants another war. That's why we're sending 51 senators, including Sens. Scott and Moody, a message thousands of constituents strong that their vote is out of touch with the people, the anti-war majority.
| ACT NOW |
We can't overstate the danger at this moment. In the past week alone, Trump has ordered drone strikes in the Caribbean, authorized CIA operations within Venezuela, and flown B-52 bombers just off the Venezuelan coast. He's charting a path to a terrifying, unnecessary war that will impact the lives of millions of people across the Western Hemisphere — and we need Congress to throw up ANY roadblock possible, fast.
The good news is that 44 Democrats, two Independents, and two Republicans have shown they are willing to step up and block Trump's unauthorized, unjustified drone strikes against boats in the Caribbean. But we know 48 votes won't be enough, and that's why we need to chip away at the 50 Republicans and one Democrat who greenlit Trump's warmongering.
The next chance to stop this war is coming up fast, Pamela. On Friday, Sens. Schiff (D-CA), Kaine (D-VA), and Paul (R-KY) introduced a resolution to block Trump from starting a direct war with Venezuela.[1] Now, we need to do everything possible to grow the group of lawmakers willing to push back.
To keep expanding the anti-war coalition on Capitol Hill, we need to be louder than the war hawks. That's why we can't let these senators' bad WPR votes go unnoticed.
Each and every time we pressure our members of Congress, we're showing up for our values, reminding them we're paying attention, and holding them accountable. That's not all — with every petition signature, phone call, and protest, we're ALSO creating the political space our decision-makers need to be bolder and work harder at building the safer, more sustainable future we all want and deserve. That's how we build political pressure. That's how we build a movement powerful enough to stop a war. Will you join us?
Thank you for working for peace,
The Win Without War team
