They’re Trying to Erase Our Votes Again. Our New Tool Fights Back.Georgia’s Purge Mirrors a National Strategy. We’re Fighting Both. This month, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger began the process of purging nearly half a million voters from the voter registration rolls – a move that could impact 6% of the state’s registered voters. In a state where elections are often decided by razor-thin margins, that’s enough to swing the outcome. If your name is on the list, you must respond by August 20th or your registration will be canceled. That’s why today, we launched a new voter purge lookup tool at FairFight.com/StopThePurges – so Georgians can see if they’re on the purge list and if eligible, take action to stay on the rolls ahead of key elections this fall. You can use it to:
As Fair Fight CEO Lauren Groh-Wargo put it:
This Isn’t New – It’s a PatternIn 2017, Georgia’s then-Secretary of State Brian Kemp oversaw the largest voter purge in state history, removing nearly 670,000 registrations in a single year. Between 2012 and 2018, over 1.4 million voters were purged in Georgia. Investigations later showed that these purges disproportionately targeted Black voters and other voters of color. Today’s purge echoes those same tactics – but this time, voters have a new tool to fight back. Republicans in Congress Want to Make Registering to Vote HarderThis latest purge isn’t happening in a vacuum. While Georgia officials are erasing voters from the rolls here at home, Donald Trump and his allies are pushing a national voter suppression bill in Congress: the so-called SAVE Act. The SAVE Act would force voters to present specific, expensive government documents to prove their citizenship – in person – in order to register. That would effectively eliminate registration by mail, online registration, and voter registration drives. Millions of Americans – especially naturalized citizens, young voters, and rural voters – could be disenfranchised. It’s an old Jim Crow trick: use red tape and false claims of fraud to block access to the ballot. And it’s part of a broader strategy to suppress voters and consolidate minority rule. Innovating to Fight Voter SuppressionWe don’t just respond to threats. We build tools to stop them. Last year, Fair Fight Action launched Peaches – a first-of-its-kind multilingual AI chatbot to help Georgians register, find their polling place, and get accurate information. Now, our purge lookup tool is helping Georgians take the next step: staying on the rolls, sharing their stories, and defending the freedom to vote. If you live in Georgia, check your status at FairFight.com/StopThePurges. If you’re not in Georgia, share the link with friends and family who are. We have to fight voter suppression from every angle – in Congress, in court, and in communities across the South. They’re trying to erase our votes. We’re fighting back.
