Pamela: Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has spent the last few months terrorizing communities across the country. Masked agents have kidnapped people in the streets, ICE has detained government officials for standing up for their constituents, and even previously protected areas like schools and churches are no longer off limits to ICE raids.
ICE's next target? Sporting events.
In June, ICE agents requested access to the parking lots at Dodger Stadium, home of the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team. But the team denied ICE entry.
Amid citywide protests, protests that Trump tried to suppress by deploying U.S. Marines and the National Guard, the Dodgers took a stand for their L.A. community and immigrants across southern California by shutting the door on ICE.
The harsh reality is that under Trump's mass deportation agenda, this isn't just happening in Los Angeles. That's why it's imperative that the 28 other MLB teams in the U.S. follow suit and publicly REJECT ICE from using their stadiums to arrest and detain immigrants — especially the Atlanta Braves, who are hosting All-Star Game festivities at Truist Park in Georgia this week.
The only way that'll happen is through a massive, sustained campaign of pressure coming from fans and activists like you, Pamela, which is why we're launching a petition to MLB team owners. Now, all you need to do is sign:
| ACT NOW |
Immigrants make the professional sports leagues we watch and the teams we support what they are. In 2024, one-quarter of MLB players were born abroad — with two of the most represented countries, Cuba and Venezuela, currently subject to Trump's travel ban.[1]
The impacts of ICE raiding sporting events extend far beyond just the baseball season, Pamela. If MLB teams allow ICE free rein to conduct raids and detentions at their games, they'll set a dangerous precedent across all professional sports leagues — especially with the U.S. slated to welcome 6.5 million visitors next year when it co-hosts the FIFA World Cup tournament.[2]
But if we can successfully get baseball teams to hold the line against ICE, we'll create the blueprint for other leagues and teams across the country to follow suit. That's why we need to use this moment to push MLB owners to follow the Dodgers' lead and keep ICE out of their stadiums.
While Trump and his MAGA allies in Congress pour $100 billion into ICE so they can hire 10,000 more agents to execute mass deportations, it's up to us, the people, to take a stand and keep ICE out of our spaces, starting with sporting events today.
We're grateful for the Los Angeles Dodgers organization for taking a stand and paving the way for other teams to stand up to ICE's authoritarian tactics. Their leadership didn't stop there: the team then pledged to donate $1 million to assist families impacted by ICE raids across southern California.
The Dodgers serve as an example for the rest of the MLB — and all professional sports teams — of what it means to support their fanbases and communities. We're thankful to have you joining us in pressuring others to do the same.
Thank you for working for peace,
The Win Without War team
